August. As for Malaysians, the most important date in August is on the 31st. This date is very meaningful as it is the day where Malaysia or it was called Malaya back then got its freedom from the United Kingdom.
It was a peaceful independence attained by holding talks with the British. The agreement for Malaya to gain independence was actually reached on February 8, 1956 but for some reason, the official proclamation of independence would be made on the year afterwards, which is on August 31, 1957 at the Royal Selangor Club Pahang, Kuala Lumpur. Then only the event moved to the Merdeka Stadium where Allayarham Tunku Abdul Rahman shouting out “Merdeka” seven times.
This year, in 2013, it has been 56 years after the shouting out “Merdeka” in Merdeka Stadium. Today, Malaysia is celebrating its 56th Independence Day with the theme “Malaysiaku Berdaulat : Tanah Tumpahnya Darahku.”
We, as the young generations which, in shaa Allah the becoming leaders should appreciate what had been done by the previous leaders in order to get independence for Malaysia. Our responsibilities are to keep Malaysia safe and peaceful without intervention of the outsiders.
But, in the joy of celebrating this Independence Day, let us save a little bit of our time to pray for others which are not as lucky as we do. Let us pray for our relatives in Egypt. In shaa Allah, may our du’a help them. =’)
Last but not least, HAPPY 56th INDEPENDENCE DAY, Malaysia.
